Industrial suction hood: characteristics and operation

An industrial suction hood is part of a strategic dust collection system for the converting sector. Industrial suction hood: what is it

An industrial suction hood is one of the components that make up a system and that allows to collect and eliminate the polluting particles generated by a process or a manufacturing process. Usually, industrial suction hoods are positioned close to the production lines, to suck the powders by picking them up at the source. Like this:

• their dispersion in the air is avoided;
• the health of the operators involved in the operation of the machines is protected;
• the work environment is kept clean and healthy;
• the quality of the finished product is guaranteed.

Depending on the customer’s needs and the type of production line in which it is integrated, each industrial suction hood will be sized and designed taking into account:

• Flow rate and speed parameters of the suction system. The flow rate and speed of the suction flow required may vary according to the characteristics of the material to be captured, the amount of dust present, the size of the system, the specific point of application.
• Characteristics of usable space. The sizing of a suction hood must also take into account the available spaces and the geometry of the area in which it will be positioned.
• Regulatory constraints. The dedusting process, in the converting sector as in many others, is subject to precise regulatory constraints, such as those deriving from the Atex directive, which we talked about recently.

Depending on the needs of the system, all the suction hoods can provide for the use of one or more filters (self-cleaning sleeves, drum or scrubber filters) to treat the sucked dust in the most suitable way.

• The slot of each industrial extractor hood we produce is equipped with a specific geometry to optimize suction performance along the entire length of the hood, ensuring a speed and air flow suitable for the application. Depending on the point at which the hood will be inserted, in fact, a greater or lesser air flow may be necessary and consequently the hood slot will be sized in accordance with these evaluations.
• All our hoods are made of robust materials, such as carbon steel or aluminum, and in thicknesses appropriate to the needs. To ensure maximum customization and reliability over time, we can paint them in RAL color at the customer’s choice and we can associate the painting with an antistatic treatment.
• All Sorgato industrial suction hoods are equipped with one or more inspection doors. In this way you can easily solve any clogging of product inside the hood itself.

In addition, some particular applications require that the space occupied by the industrial suction hood be freed up during maintenance or loading of the sheet on the converting line. • made of aluminum to reduce its weight;
• equipped with a linear or rotational movement system, manual or automatic, motorized or pneumatic, according to the specific needs of the line or the customer.
