Tailor-made dust extraction systems: how we work

By Sorgato, 22/01/2024

We have talked several times in our blog about how Sorgato specializes in the design, construction and installation of custom-made dust extraction systems. This time, however, we want to explain how we operate in the management of an order: from the first inspection at the customer’s premises to the choice of the most suitable solution to propose.

Tailor-made dust extraction systems: the Sorgato method

When a company asks us to design, manufacture and install one of our custom-made dust extraction systems, the situations can be different. This can be:

  • work on a production line already installed at the customer’s site;
  • operate on a new line that has not yet been put into operation;
  • intervene to renovate and improve the performance of a Sorgato system that has been installed for some time.

Let’s leave aside for now this last case, which we will talk about in one of the next articles, and let’s focus on the situations in which we find ourselves working on an existing line or on a converting plant that is not yet active. In both cases, we proceed step by step.

The first phase always involves an accurate and complete inspection at the customer’s premises. It is personally led by the same senior engineer in charge of the management and development of the order. During the inspection:

  • We carry out the necessary surveys and measurements on the line, if already installed, and on the production spaces in which it is located;
  • We identify the needs to be met and any problems that the company has to face;
  • We identify the dustiest points of the line, to understand the areas on which our tailor-made dust extraction systems will have to intervene.

On the basis of the information, measurements and data collected, our technical department creates a preliminary drawing of the plant, with the relative measurements.

This first design takes into consideration, among the main elements, the size and optimal positioning of the extractor hoods: a fundamental element to be sure that the dedusting systems, once built, adapt perfectly to the customer’s converting line and to the needs identified during the preliminary inspection.

The benefits for customers

This method of operation brings significant benefits to the tissue companies we work with. Several companies, in fact, consider converting lines of the same type installed at their headquarters, with the same work groups, as all the same.

In reality, as we at Sorgato know well, each has its own characteristics: each, therefore, requires a custom-designed dust extraction system.

The specific situation of each converting line, in fact, can vary, for example, depending on:

  • Placement of the line within the company’s production layout;
  • As a result, conditions differ from line to line with regard to general dustiness and the specific points where dust is produced and accumulated;
  • Evolution of the line over time. This element concerns the changes that an already installed line undergoes over the years, but also the changes and evolution of the applicable technology.

Going deeper into the last point mentioned, our team obviously takes into account the evolution of the technological elements found on the market compared to those available at the time the processing line was designed and built. This aspect makes it possible to adapt the characteristics of the extraction system to changes in the new line installed compared to the previous one.

On-site measurements, however, allow us to do more than just that: thanks to precise measurements and data, we are able to precisely define the dimensions, technical elements and location of the system.

In addition, Sorgato technicians have the opportunity to propose to the customer and insert into the plant the most recent solutions that our company has developed. We can do this, considering that Sorgato innovations always derive from a problem that a company has to face or from a need for improvement for which there is no proven solution.

Usually, needs of this kind are common to several companies: for this reason, it often happens that we industrialize the innovations tested for a single customer, to meet the needs of several companies. When this happens, each of the dust extraction systems that integrate the new Sorgato solutions is in any case custom-sized, designed and built, as we have described.

The reaction of customers? Very positive. In fact, companies do not expect such an advanced degree of customization. In our opinion, however, the consulting and personalized approach we adopt in the management of orders is the best way to ensure excellent operational performance of the plants and quality of the final result.
